Hornbill Festival of Nagaland gives exposure to entire northeast- Pema Khandu


The Hornbill Festival has given exposure not only to Nagaland but also to entire Northeast, said Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday, He  attended the 5th day of the Hornbill Festival as Guest of Honour here at Heritage village in Kisama.  .

He said those in metro cities in mainland are not aware of the rich cultural diversity that Northeast offers. They think of the region as belonging to a single cultural stock.


He said Northeast was ignored and neglected for many decades but not any more. He said under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, things are fast changing. Investors are more willing to visit and invest in the region, he said and urged the states of NE to hold investment meet regularly. The CM said Arunachal is soon going to hold an investment meeting.

Khandu said Arunachal and Nagaland shares several things in common. He said in both states – Hornbill bird has great cultural significance. He also said both the states has great cultural diversity due to which people in both the states have to use common languages to interact with people from their own state.

The Chief Minister said Nagaland and Arunachal is also affected by huge expenditure of money during the elections. He appreciated the efforts of community organization and Churches in Nagaland who are campaigning against use of money to buy votes. He appealed the people of both states to shun money so that good leaders get fair chance.

Earlier Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang delivered the welcome address while Nagaland Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar chaired the function.

Cultural troupes from both Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh performed alongside the Naga cultural troupes. Snow lion dance and Yak dance from Arunachal were presented on the occasion.

Later the Chief Minister visited the exhibition stalls and tribal huts erected by different tribes of Nagaland.
