Chief Minister Pema Khandu has extended his greetings to the people on happy and joyous occasion of Diwali, the festival of lights.

In a message this evening, Khandu wished that the festival of lights will light up the lives of each Arunachalee and usher Arunachal Pradesh into a brighter tomorrow.

“Arunachal Pradesh, though a late starter, is progressing fast with the contributions of every citizen, irrespective of profession and category. It’s my firm belief that the Team Arunachal spirit will shine brighter this Diwali and inspire us to work with renewed vigour for development, peace and prosperity. I also hope the festival of lights will drive away the darkness of corruption, disharmony and disunity in whatever small traces still prevailing in our society,” Khandu expressed hope.

He pointed that while Diwali in northern India is celebrated on King Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana, southern India celebrates it as the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura.

“In western India the festival marks the day that Lord Vishnu, the Preserver, sent the demon King Bali to rule the nether world. However, in all interpretations, one common thread rings true—the festival marks the victory of good over evil. We should always keep this message in mind in smallest of the smallest act we do,” Khandu added.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister appealed people not to get carried away with the celebrations and maintain caution while lighting lamps and crackers. He also requested elders and parents to take care of children besides upholding the sanctity of the festival by not infringing into others rights by crackers and loud noise.

“This is a festival to enjoy with everybody. Let’s make this Diwali safer, pollution free and a celebration of our unity amidst our diversity,” he appealed.
