CAB issue: CM Pema Khandu vows to protect rights of tribal communities

Reiterating his stand on Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday said if the proposed Bill goes according to CAB, 2016, then the state Government will oppose it.

“We totally oppose, which was proposed in the CAB, 2016,” Khandu told reporters on the sidelines of Indigenous Faith Day celebration at Pasighat under East Siang district of the state.

Informing about yesterday’s meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which was attended by state leaders of various political parties, AAPSU, NESO and AITF at New Delhi on CAB, the Chief Minister said besides discussion on recommendation of the Consultative Committee on CAB, the stakeholders kept their point on the said Bill.

“In the greater interest of tribal communities of Arunachal, we told at the meeting that proposed CAB,2019  if it goes according to CAB,2016 then we will oppose it,’’  he stated.

“Amit Shah ji has assured that there will be zero impact of CAB to Arunachal Pradesh. The recommendation of the state will be incorporated in the Bill,” Khandu said.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister  during the meeting with Home Minister had said that all provisions of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 and the Chin Hills Regulation, 1896  need to be incorporated in the proposed Bill.

The Union Home Minister assured that entire regime of Inner Line Permit (ILP) of Arunachal Pradesh, including applicable provisions of the Bengal East Frontier Regulation, 1873 and the Chin Hills Regulations 1896, will be suitably incorporated in the proposed CAB.

The CAB,  is likely to be tabled in the on-going winter session of Parliament, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
