BSF Seizes Huge Haul of Cattle at Border

The troops of Border Security Force once again showing alertness and extra vigil on International Border, foiled the attempt of notorious smugglers and seized 104 Nos cattle at zero line. Acting on sneaky information obtained from reliable sources that some cattle smugglers proceeding with huge number of cattle for smuggling on international border. The BSF troops deployed at Lyngkhat, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya launched Spl. operation and prevented 65 nos cattle being smuggled to Bangladesh taking advantage of darkness through unfenced gaps. In same area four days back 20 cattle were seized by the border sentinels while being smuggled to Bangladesh. “Lyngkhat is notorious for cattle smuggling and such attempts have been thwarted several times by the sentinels of the border. However, all the border-dwelling people on the India side are being regularly briefed and sensitized to prevent menace of cattle smuggling by the BSF, which seeks their co-operation with local inhabitants.

 Similarly, in another incident, the BSF troops deployed at Baljora, West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya seized 21 cattle while being smuggled to Bangladesh. The special operation party of BSF laid a trap while some smugglers along with cattle were proceeding towards Bangladesh through a thickly vegetated area. The BSF troops rushed towards the suspected area before the smugglers could succeed in their nefarious activity, cordoned off the area and recovered a considerable numbers of cattle. Cattle haats near the international boundary in area of West Garo Hills are now developing as major source of cattle for smuggling from India to Bangladesh.

 The BSF has continuously been in its drive against the Cattle smugglers. The Border Security Force has intensified its operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent Trans-border crimes. The BSF has issued operational guidelines to further strengthen border domination so as to put effective check on the menace of smuggling and activities of anti-national elements. On the other hand, troops and field commanders have been asked to maintain extra vigil on the border

In addition the BSF troops seized 270 Cattle, approx. 188 Cft Wooden logs, Liquor 59 botls, 02 Nos wooden boat, Betel nut 6,900 Nos, Ganja /Hemp 3.5 Kg and other contraband items worth more than 38 Lac, while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on the International Border along Meghalaya during last week in more than 47 incidents.

All the seized items handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
