Troops of Border Security Force BSF under Guwahati Frontier seized huge quantity of Ganja from the border area of Coochbehar on Friday.
On specific information of Intelligence branch of BSF in Coochbehar Sector, troops of BOP Chaudharyhat carried out an operation in the vicinity of the International Boundary and recovered 27 Kgs of Ganja.
The consignment was concealed in six polythene bags. The consignment has been handed over to Custom authorities for further disposal. Though no apprehension has been made till now, efforts are being made to trace those involved in this crime.
Smuggling and seizure of illegal Ganja is nothing new for this region. It is specially pertinent for this region that is socioeconomically, politically and geographically located at a critical location with many international border at close vicinity and politically disturbed with presence of many active militant groups like.
According to the experts of intelligence, the over 250 km stretch of NH 31 from river Sankosh in Assam Bengal Border of Coochbehar District to Islampore of North Dinajpore Dt. at Bengal Bihar border via Jalpaiguri District and Siliguri, is known as the ‘Siliguri Corridor.’
With Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet and Bangladesh at close proximity within 100 km, this is a golden rout for the traffickers to get access to global market through these neighboring countries.
