Assam- NH37 closed due to flood water flowing over National Highway

Second  wave of floods in Assam has affected about 4  lakh people in 15 districts. Road communication between upper and lower Assam disrupted in Jakhalabandha because of flood water. The Nagaon district administration has announced closure the NH37 at Numaligarh for indefinite period.

The Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon, Samsher Singh said that there is a breach near Jakhalabandha and the flood water is flowing over the Assam- NH37 closed due to flood water flowing over National HighwayNH37. So the district administration has taken the decision to closed the road for till the situation improves.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal  has directed chief secretary V.K. Pipersenia to hold a video conference and talk to deputy commissioners of the affected districts to assess the intensity of the situation and undertake relief and rescue operations, a government release said.

Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts have been affected by the fresh wave of floods following the one last month.

An Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report said  report said Brahmaputra, Buridihing, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Puthimari and Sankosh rivers were flowing above danger levels and have submerged more than 20,000 hectares of cropland.

Nearly 14,000 flood displaced people are taking shelter in 39 relief centres, the ASDMA report added.

Chief Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inspected flood relief camps in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts and took stock of the situation on the ground.

The Chief Minister assured all possible help to the deluge hit people and directed the district officials to adequately provide relief materials.

The Chief Minister also said that State Government will consider the demands raised by the people, including construction of embankments and rehabilitation of the affected

Total 57419 people and 87 villages are affected in Moran, Chabua, Tengakhat, Dibrugarh east and west revenue circle in the recent flood in the district.

Till date, total 5475.764 hecres of land including 3525.892 hectres agricultural land affected because of the flood.

The Protection dyke near Pandhowa ghat under Tengakhat revenue circle, Bogibeel ring bundh and Gowalapatty ring bundh under Dibrugarh west revenue circle are reported partial damage due to the flood.

The district administration has established 15 relief camps in Chabua, one in Dibrugarh east revenue circle and two in west revenue circle for the flood affected people.
