About hundreds of veterinary graduates on Saturday boycotted Veterinary officer (VOs) examination that supposed to start today and carried out a peace full rally demanding increase of the VOs post from 21 to 70 posts including enhancement of age relaxation, creation of 158 more VOs post in a phase wise manners etc.

Talking to media, AUVDA president Koj Morchi while addressing the reporters in press club told that “we had to boycott the exam because since 1986 the concerned department has failed to create new post which is hampering the 70 graduates as to be unemployed”.

Till today 14 new veterinary hospitals and 80 dispensaries has been created in the state but due to the shortage of VO none of the office is functional. Presently there are 122 numbers of VO serving in the state which according to the National Commission on Agriculture (1976) recommendation should be least one VO for 5000 animals. Therefore looking to the state 19th Livestock Census 2012 the state needs 282 numbers more VO for smooth function of offices, he added.

Meanwhile a member of AUVDA, A.Lego said that all the recruitment of VO post in the concerned department is made by promotional, retirement and vacancy due to death till today. We want special consideration of upper age limit to 40 years and 5 years of relaxation for APST candidates and consonance of over age limit to the current recruitment process of VO.

The last recruitment for the 7 post of VO was advertised in the year of 2011 followed by the same on 20th June 2017 by APPSC. The long gap of 6 years in the recruitment process has resulted in crossing upper limit of many veterinary graduates and many more are in the verge of it which in the other states is above 40 years, he said.

We stay in a state where most of the students joins schools very late and thus not make up to the age of qualification for the said exam. We want the state government and the department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development to know the problems of the students and come up with discussion to overcome age limitation for the exam, Lego added.
