Arunachal: Self-defense training for girls begins in Seppa

Girl students from different blocks of the district are participating in the programme.

With the objective to promote and impart the art of self-defense amongst girl children, a three days training programme began today here at Nyokum Ground, Seppa. East Kameng District Samagra Shiksha Society in collaboration with the WCD Department and East Kameng District Karate Association has organised this district level training on self-defense for girl students under Integrated Scheme for School Education (ISSE).

The training programme will be organized from 6 to 8 November. Girl students from different blocks of the district are participating in the programme.

Inaugurating the programme, East Kameng DC Gaurav Singh Rajawat delivered on the benefits and advantages of self-defense.

Terming adolescent age as best learning period, he urged the participating girl students to exploit the opportunity at its fullest. He also exhorted them to accord top most priority to study.

Enlightening about the aims and objectives of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, DC Rajawat made an appeal to the people and all stakeholders to cooperate and coordinate in achieving the true goal of the abhiyan.

In order to instill a sense of participation amongst the participants, DC has offered to confer three best-performing girl students with cash awards on completion of the training programme.

Speaking on the occasion, EKSWCO Chairman-cum-PD (DRDA) Dahey Sango expressed gratitude to the education department for conducting the programme and exhorted the participants to grasp the opportunity at its fullest. Citing the benefits of the training programme, he urged the department to conduct such kind of activities in regular interval with extended schedule.

Terming early marriage as a blot on any society, Sangno urged the girl students to give equal importance to study also, besides other co-curricular activities. Enlightening about the true picture of challenges lurking ahead, he exhorted the student community, especially to the students of govt. schools, to plan their scholastic strategy in advance to win the race of tough competition in today’s world.

Informing about the award being conferred recently by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India to the district for performing one of the best districts in the country in respect of sex ratio, DD (ICDS) W Thungon appreciated and expressed gratitude to the Team East Kameng led by DC Rajawat and the general public for their seamless support and cooperation.

She also urged all participating students to grasp the opportunity of learning the art of self-defense.

Demonstration on basic steps and techniques of self-defense and karate by a team of East Kameng Karate Association was the highlight of the event.

DDSE Duken Kato, DIET Principal Kata Rangmo, WWO President Mone Taba, AEKDSU President Chakang Yangda and host of teachers and govt. officials of education and WCD departments were also present in the launching programme.
