Arunachal: SEC preparing for panchayat and municipal election-Nyali Ete

Draft publication of rolls has been scheduled on November 5 next with publication of final electoral rolls set for December 2.  Moreover, special campaign for the special revision is set for November 11.

The State Election Commission has decided to hold special revision of electoral rolls of Panchayati Raj with reference to January 1 next year as qualifying date, to be well prepared for the next Panchayati election in the state, informed Nyali Ete, Secretary of State Election Commissioner (SEC).

Draft publication of rolls has been scheduled on November 5 next with publication of final electoral rolls set for December 2.  Moreover, special campaign for the special revision is set for November 11.

When asked for the delay in conducting the panchayatiraj election in the state, Nyali said that there were some delimitation issues in some districts that needed to be rectified before conducting the election and Act and Rule conflict of Municipal.

He informed that most of the issues have been resolved after series of meeting separately for Lower Subansiri and Upper Subansiri district respectively.

He further informed that ” the commission has submitted a tentative date for conducting the election to the state government and added that election will be conducted as soon as the state government gives a green light.

Meanwhile, he informed that ” Panchayat middle tier has been removed and the election for only Gram Panchayat and Zilla Parishad will be conducted”.

Moreover, he said that “reformation in the Municipal seats has also been made”. “Itanagar Municipal which has 30 seats has been reduced to 20 seats while Pasighat Municipal which has 12 seats has been reduced to 8 seats,” he added.

“We are conducting this special revision which is not intensive revision so that we are well prepared for conducting election. Usually, preparation for conducting election requires two month approximately; but with this sort of beforehand preparation, we are aiming to conduct within a month once it is finalized for conducting election,” he said.

He also hoped that the state government addresses the situation soon and conduct the election at the earliest.
