The nominations of all the 4 independent candidates were found valid for the bypoll in 56-Khonsa West (ST) Assembly Constituency in Arunachal Pradesh , where election is scheduled on October 21. These four candidates are Chakat Aboh, Yumsem Matey, Wangchu Lowang and Azet Homtok.

All the four candidates are set to fight for the seat which has been left vacant following the death of former MLA Tirong Aboh, who had won with more than a thousand votes in the state assembly election.

With the completion of scrutiny of nomination paper, the withdrawal is due till October 3.

If none withdraw their nomination paper, all the four candidates will contest the ensuing by-poll election as Independent candidates.

In an all-party meeting chaired by Arunachal Chief Minister and BJP leader Pema Khandu on Saturday, representatives of various political parties like ruling BJP, Opposition Congress, NPP, Janata Dal (United) and People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) chose  Aboh as a consensus candidate and decided not to field any candidate from their respective parties against her.

The decision to extend their support to Aboh was taken to express their solidarity with family members of former MLA Tirong Aboh, who along with 10 others was killed by suspected NSCN militants in an ambush on May 21 – two days ahead of announcement of Assembly polls results.
