Arunachal: NERIST organised a awareness programme for farmers

The Department of Agricultural Engineering, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh organized a one day “Demonstration cum awareness programme of “Ergonomically Improved Sickle and Backpack for load carrying in Sherpa mode” developed by the NERIST on Thursday at Upper Jumi Village, Kimin Subdivision under Papum Pare district.

About 20 farmers (17 Female and 3 male) participated in the demonstration programme which is sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) through All India Coordinated Research Project on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture (AICRP on ESA), NERIST centre, Nirjuli.

The improved sickle is design according to the anthropometric data of north eastern female farm workers. With the help Backpack during load carrying significant amount of force is taken by the shoulder thus improving the load carrying capacity duration of work.

The farmers appreciated the developed sickle with backpack for load carrying. The improved sickle is light in weight and easy to use.

The centre visits various villages to demonstrate and highlight the importance of improved tools and equipment which are feasible the region to reduce drudgery.
