Arunachal: National Level Workshop held at RGU

A one-day national-level workshop on cooperative society as one of the best means for socio-economic and business entrepreneurship development of women and educated unemployed youth was held today at Rajiv Gandhi University ( RGU ) today under the aegis of Rajiv Gandhi University Research Scholars’ Forum (RGURSF).

The workshop was sponsored by the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union (APSCU).

Speaking at the function, Tsering Thongdok, Managing Director-cum-CEO of Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd said that the movement of co-operative society in the state is slowly accelerating with introduction of various pro-poor and youth-oriented schemes like Deen Dayal Upadhyay Bunker Yojna (DDUBY), a promotional scheme to weavers for development of handloom and textile, CM’s Paryatan Vikas Yojana (CMPVY), a scheme assisting tourism development on adventure tourism and homestay trades. Even though the State has about more than800 primary cooperative societies registered under the Arunachal Pradesh Cooperative Societies Act and 5 state level Cooperative Societies, the products from all these societies are yet to reach its highest standards, he said.

Thongdok also informed that 200 Nos. of Mobile Micro-ATM will be introduced in the un-covered villages for rendering banking services at the doorstep of the people with over 37 number of ATM booths installed with Cash Re-cycler Machines within the current Financial year in all its 37 Branches.

Relaying about the bank’s developmental roles, he also said that the bank has procured a Mobile ATM Van with the support of NABARD with a view to providing banking services at the doorstep of the people. The facility will also be used for creating awareness and educating people for use of ATM card base transactions, he added.

RGU’s Professor, Otem Padng, presenting a power point presentation on various benefits of cooperative societies as resource person said that the social unrest among unemployed women and youth can be solved through cooperative venture as it can remit economical, social, political, educational and ethical benefits.

DRCS Registrar of Coop Societies, Michi Gumbo, CEO of state cooperative, Pelbang Tayeng and ICM faculty Dr. K Ramalingam were among other resource persons who gave deliberations during the workshop, while RGU’s Assistant professor Bikash Bage was the moderator of the technical session of the cooperative event.

More than 80 participants which included students, scholars, and faculties registered to attend the workshop.
