Arunachal: Governor participates in the Constitution Day celebration

Governor appeals to the people to strengthen the resolve to live up to the ideals of the Constitution

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) participated in the Constitution Day celebration to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India at Dorjee Khandu Auditorium, Legislative Office Complex, Itanagar on 26th November 2019.

The Governor appealed to the people to strengthen the resolve to live up to the ideals of our Constitution, the dynamism of the Constitution, which exemplified in the ideals of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity that sets the tone of the development and  strive to protect and preserve these foundational ethics.

While complimenting the Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly Pasang Dorjee Sona and his team for organising the maiden event, the Governor expressed his hope that it will create awareness, values and importance of the Constitution.

He said that the Constitution of India is a vibrant, democratic and living Constitution with its distinct features, the Preamble, the Concept of Federation, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles. It has provisions to cope up with the National Imperatives and the march of time. He further said that in the Indian Federation System, it Nation is cemented and attachment is unalterable and non-cessationable.

The Governor said that many provisions of other constitutions, we have appropriately given place in our constitution to make our country a vibrant democracy.

The Governor, while highlighting about the ‘Fundamental Duties’ of the Indian Constitution, said that if the people of India want to stay strong, sovereign and developed, they must abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem and if they sincerely and honestly address the global warming, they must protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers, wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures.

 He advised the people to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform as enshrined in the constitution.

The Governor also advised the parent or guardian, to provide opportunities for education to his child, or as the case may be, ward between the age of six to fourteen years. We must look beyond our child or wards and provide educational opportunities to those who are needy poor and downtrodden, he said.

Sharing his vision for the way ahead, the Governor advocated for the ‘One Nation, One Constitution’ concept. He commended the abrogation of Articles 35A and 370, which he termed as draconian.

Deputy Chief Minister  Chowna Mein, Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly  Pasang Dorjee Sona, Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte and Former Secretary-General of Lok Sabha  G.C. Malhotra shared their views on the occasion.

On the occasion, the Governor gave away the prizes to the winners of the debate competition, ‘Abrogation of Article 370 of Indian Constitution’ organized by the office of the Legislative Assembly to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Mige Kambu from Rajiv Gandhi University, won the 1st prize, Miss Kanchan Dui, also from Rajiv Gandhi University, won the second prize and Miss Khyoda Yaluk, Arunachal Law Academy, won the 3rd prize.

Ministers of the State Cabinet, members of Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly, officers of the State Government and students attended the programme .
