In his message, the Governor said that Eid al-Adha, reminds all of the absolute trust of Ibrahim (Abraham) in Almighty Allah. This festival is celebrated with traditional fervor and gaiety in India and other parts of the world with special prayer meetings for the well being of human beings and this is happily marked with the distribution of gifts and eatables to relatives, neighbours and the needy. In all essence, this Festival promotes goodwill, amity and brotherhood among the people, the Governor said.

May this sacred occasion continue to strengthen our composite culture, unity and integrity of the society and the Nation, the Governor wished.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has conveyed his greetings and best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Bakrid.

Joining the Islamic community in the pious celebration, Khandu said Bakrid or Eid al-Adha marks man’s supreme faith on God. It is the celebration of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his own son as an act of obedience and devotion towards God. Moved by this willingness of the Prophet God intervened by send an angel to place a goat in place of Ibrahim’s son.

From that day onwards, followers of Islam celebrate Eid al-Adha by sacrificing male goats.

“Let’s all celebrate this ‘Feast of Sacrifice’ and strengthen our unity in diversity,” the Chief Minister said in a message this evening.
