Arunachal: Colleges shutdown in support of NERIST students ongoing protest

All higher learning education institution and Colleges of Arunachal Pradesh witness complete shut down in state in the demand of permanent director of NERIST.

The standoff  between the students of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) here sees no development, with the indefinite strike spearheaded by Students’ Union of NERIST (SUN) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) demanding immediate appointment of regular Director entering its seventh day today.

With no amicable solution coming from the MHRD, even as AAPSU had shutdown all colleges and varsities of the state today, the AAPSU and SUN this evening declared to intensify its protest, by going ‘extreme’ with their demand.

Offended by the centre’s negligence on appointing a regular director for North East’s premiere science and technology oriented institute, AAPSU Vice President (Admin) Meje Taku said that the apex student body will treat this as an ‘insult’.

“This is not about NERIST anymore, Union ministry is deliberately discriminating Arunachal and the North East. The next course of our protest will be announced shortly and it will be unpleasant”, added the AAPSU leader.

SUN President, Banta Natung today said that, the students of NERIST will go for a foot-march from its campus to Raj Bhavan in Itanagar tomorrow.

The AAPSU on Monday had successfully shutdown all colleges and universities of the state, as part of its first phase of agitation.

The higher level educational hubs of the state remained closed, in all districts with students boycotting all academic and non-academic in protest against the delay in the appointment of a full-time Director for NERIST, said AAPSU’s Vice President (Admin) Meje Taku, who actively led team AAPSU today, making visits to all the colleges in universities in the capital complex.

He said that students held picketing at college and varsity campuses preventing teachers and non-teaching staffs from attending their respective offices.

All the colleges and universities across the state also showed support to the agitation launched by the NERIST students for immediate appointment of regular Director, he added.

At Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) here the students gathered outside the main gate and shouted slogans in favour to the demand placed by the students Union of NERIST and show their solidarity of the clarion call given by the premier students union of state.

Rajiv Gandhi Government polytechnic also shout down their classes even the office was closed till 10.30 morning however there was only few administrative staffs seen in the campus.

North East Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital (NEHMCH) a private college located at Vivek Vihar also witness shutdown and all the classes were locked down while the students remain away from the classes while faculty remain in office and doing other medical works.

Report from various district of state of closure of the higher learning education institution shout down received either government of private.

Bomdila report add that the students leader of West Kameng district students union today observed complete bands in all educational institution and Govt college Bomdila, ITI Dirang,  DIET Dirang and Polytechnic college Namthung was completely closed today in support of the demand of the NERIST.

According to NERIST source, state education Minister, Honchun Ngandam was expected to visit the institute today with an appointment letter, but could not make it to the campus due to unknown reason.

The students also rejected a letter issued to registrar, NERIST by joint secretary, MHRD which was given to students in the evening informing that the appointment of Director is under process and proposal is pending with DOPL for the approval of ACC.

Meanwhile the situation at NERIST campus become worsen with another two student, who has been on relay hunger strike since Thursday had to rushed to nearest hospital after his health deteriorated. On earlier occasion four students have to rushed to TRIHMS < Naharlagun of deteriorating  health and bellowing of the sugar level.
