A cloudburst, accompanied by hailstorm, swept through Bomdila township in West Kameng district on Friday afternoon. The torrential rain triggered landslides and flash flood in the township.

The heavy downpour lashed the district headquarters for over an hour, leading to choking of drains and littering of debris all around. However, there was no report of any human casualty.

Besides a few residential quarters, the boundary wall of the Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow was partially damaged by the gushing mud and slush. The main road and link roads of the township have been flooded and rendered useless for vehicular traffic as of now, said an official source here.

However, with the rain abating, restoration works have been launched. It will take a few days to clean up the choked drains and remove all the debris that has accumulated on the roads, the source added.
