Arunachal: Agreement for research on “ Black Apong, Chang”

Department of Science & Technology today enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Dirbugarh University of Assam to study on traditional alcoholic beverage “ Black Apong, Chang” for its preservation and commercialisation today.

Science & technology  Chairman Bamang Mangha informed that traditional alcoholic  beverage of indigenous community reflect their traditional knowledge of brewing and it has a potential to develop it as alcoholic beverage for contemporary  world and possible to develop it as market compatible product as like “Pheni” in Goa.

The proposed research work involved documentation of traditional knowledge adopting methodological tools of rapid rural appraisal  (RRA) participatory rural appraisal, focus group discussion, biological analysis of integrants with spectroscopic technique and chemist  tools alogwith other sets of test for assessing alcoholic  component, nutrient value and chemical constituent, market value and experiments through networking through different wine club of the country.

He said this initiate will go a long way so that he local items of the state is also popularised and it can been preserved for long days and compete the other alcohol and provide an opportunity to the local growers of millets and rice, barley  and it will be taken up as a pilot project. The first report and publication of the report of the research and field works will be publish and made available by next six month

Dibrugarh University Professor of Chemistry Pradip Kumar Gogoi and Associate Professor Dr. Jitu Ranjan Chetia whil Director Science & Technology   department represented by its Director C D Mungyak and Joint Director Dr. Debajit Mahanta.
