Adi Students Union (AdiSU) has expressed its resentment over the delay on the arrest of culprits involved in the arson of Community hall and 14 houses in new Mabra village in Namsai district on October 15 last.

Speaking to reporters at press club today, Nang Gao,  President AdiSU said ‘despite our repeated plea and FIR being lodged the administration, as well as Police, are reluctant to arrest the culprits. The entire accused are already identified and roaming freely whereas the victims are living in total chaos without food, shelter and clothes’ lamented President AdiSU.

The lackadaisical attitude shown by the Administration and Police are not acceptable, so we are organizing Peace rally on October 25  next at Namsai to press our demands like  immediate arrest of the culprits, release if compensation to the villagers and re-construction of  Community Hall (Musup) which is one of the prestigious and respected centers of  Adi Community’ said Gao.

AdiSU President, further stated ‘ We are not against any community but the accuses that set fire on the community hall (Musup) and left the 14 houses including 130 members homeless must be arrested and punished as per the laid down laws’.

AdiSU Speaker, Kalen Tadeng asserted that Police were reluctant to lodge the FIR but after much pressure from the union they lodged FIR. The issue should be given a communal colour rather we all should come and stand against such atrocity.

When asked about the Re-settlement of the village in Reserve Forest Area, Speaker informed that villagers are mainly from three villages Mabira, Morapat  and Mazgaon under Chowkham circle of then Lohit District. They have lost all their lands and properties in the devastating floods of 2004, since then the government and even village chief of Chowkham has given his consent to settle in the new area.

Though flood-affected villagers are settled in the Forest area but it is not right to arson the houses and takes law in their hands. There is a Forest department, police and administration to act as per the law’ stated Tadeng.
