Arunachal: Nabam Tuki concerned over disinvestment of NEEPCO

Former Chief Minister and Sagalee MLA Nabam Tuki expressed concern over the news published in several media houses in connection with disinvestment and privatisation of NEEPCO.
Tuki while talking to Arunachal24 said that he wrote a letter to Prime Minister of India on Thursday for his notice regarding Merger, Disinvestment and Privatization of NEEPCO Ltd. which is a Govt, of India Enterprise.
He said, that ” the NEEPCO is a Mini Ratna PSU and news regarding its disinvestment or privatisation, is a matter of serious concern. This has created fear psycho not only to employees of NEEPCO but also to all stakeholder and beneficiaries especially Project Affected Families, unemployed youths, vendors, daily earned laborers etc”.
The NEEPCO was established on 2nd April 1976 under Ministry of Power for Socio-economic development of North Eastern State in particular and is a successful venture in generating power and helping the people of the region in upgrading its status as well as supplying power supply to the region as well. He said.
“As per data available in MoU with MOP, Govt, of India, NEEPCO’s Net worth is Rs 6,395 Crores for 2018-19 up to September 2018. Around 95% of employees from the North Eastern States are dependent on it. The details of Projects taken up by NEEPCO in North Eastern region and the employee strength with special reference to the State of Arunachal Pradesh would be affected and there is an apprehension that they may lose their job”, Tuki said.
The disinvestment or privatization of NEEPCO will be against coined slogan “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas (together with all, development for all, the trust of all)”. This will further result in imbalance in social, cultural and demographic shape of North Eastern State” said Tuki.
Tuki further said that “he have appeal the Prime Minister to reconsider the decision of merger, disinvestment or privatization of profit making PSU in particular NEEPCO Ltd in the greater interest of the citizens of North East India.
He also inform that “several private company have also given away with several power project which are yet to be completed but on the other hand NEEPCO have constructed 405 RHEP in Lower Subansiri district, recently commissioned 110 MW PHEP in Papum Pare district and 600 KHEP in West Kameng district is likely to be commissioned soon and all these three project are for the development of the region. The government of India should have taken the opinion of the people and state government of the region first before going for such a big decision”.
The copy of the letter has been sent to Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and cabinet Ministers and spoken with the Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein who is the Hydro Power Development Incharge.
Several employees of NEEPCO, local contractors and local leaders of the area meet me on Wednesday and have a discussion on the issue and they submitted a memorandum to the effect and basing on their appeal I have written the PMO for reconsideration of the decision. Tuki further added.
