World Tourism day to be celebrated in a befitting manner at Namsai

Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein today convened a meeting of District Administration, Heads of Departments, Officials from Directorate of Tourism  and representatives of Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operator’s Association in connection with the celebration of World Tourism Day on September 27 next at Namsai in a befitting manner.

Mein informed that the Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operator’s Association has called on him in his Secretariat’s Office in Itanagar few weeks before and proposed to celebrate this year’s World Tourism Day at Namsai with a view to market and promote the tourism potential of the eastern Arunachal to which he readily accepted. He expressed his thankfulness to the Tour Operators for selecting Namsai as venue for the World Tourism Day Celebration and at the same time expressed happiness to host the event at Namsai, it being the Divisional Headquarter of Eastern Arunachal.

Stressing on the importance of Tourism sector for a developing State like ours, he opined that the eastern part of Arunachal has also great Tourism potential but unfortunately it is not tapped to its potential. He added that there is urgent need to market the God gifted tourism opportunity of the eastern parts of Arunachal Pradesh along with the rest of the Arunachal Pradesh.

He emphasised that World Tourism Day should be celebrated in grand manner involving all the districts of the Eastern Arunachal this year and suggested to celebrate it next year in one of the district of Western Arunachal, this way we will promote tourism in every part of the State. He said that the events should generate significant interests and awareness amongst the youths, SHGs, PRI leaders and Legislators about Tourism. He also asked the organisers to ensure participation of the Taxi/Sumo Drivers and the hotel owners/managers and create awareness on hospitality and cleanliness.

The World Tourism Day Celebration will be jointly organised by the Department of Tourism and the Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operator’s Association and supported by the District administration of Namsai.

WTD event will consists of Photography Competition, Culinary Competition on Traditional Foods, Cycling Competition from Golden Pagoda to Namsai, Panel Discussions on How to preserve Cultural Heritage & Wildlife Conservation & Promotion of Arunachal Pradesh, Accessibility – A Major Challenge in Arunachal Pradesh, ASEAN Relation and Act East Policy and Workshops on topics such as Rural Tourism – suitable & eco-based Tourism, Wildlife Tourism – Conservation & Tourism a way ahead, Homestay –Sustainable & tourist friendly – A success story and Adventure Tourism. Apart from it, there will be a cleanliness drive in Namsai.

R K Sharma, Deputy Commissioner read out the detail programmes and assured that the District Administration will fully support for the smooth and successful celebration of WTD.

Among others, Parliamentary Secretary for Planning & Investment, Chow Zingnu Namchoom, Superintendent of Police, C K Mein, ADC Bijoy Talukdar, Gedo Esi, Deputy Director (Tourism), HoDs and representative of APTOA Eastern Arunachal Unit were present in the meeting.
