TWM Football Tournament- Chinkoi FC beat Deomali FC

In the thrilling finals of the second edition of Thansen Wangchadong Memorial Football Tournament  ( TWMFT )  played at the jam-packed Nehru stadium on 30th September the Chinkoi FC beat Deomali FC by a solitary goal.

Though the first half of the match went barren with both the teams unable to break the dead-lock, the Deomali FC dominated the match making a number of threatening foreys into the Chinkoi FC goal. However, the strikers of Deomali FC failed to convert the few golden opportunities they got. Both the teams started off the second half with a spirited display trying to go into the lead but in vain.

As expected the Chinkoi FC players did not tire and attacked their opponent relentlessly in the second half. On the other hand the Deomali players though displayed skillful and tactical game, appeared little jaded and tired. The huge football lovers including the main sponsor Wanglin Lowangdong, Khonsa MAL Wanglam Sawin, ZPC Sontung Bangsia, DC Ravi Jha, SP JK Meena, CO, 36 CRPC, Officers and public leaders were enthralled by the flair and skills of Deomali FC and raw power and stamina of Chinkoi FC players.

The Chinkoi FC went into the lead in the early minutes of the second half through a beautiful field goal making the score 1-0. It may be mentioned here that 26 matches including the finals were played and 137 goals were scored out of which the Khunnu FC, the winner of the first TWMFT edition alone scored 21 goals.

The result of 4 matches were decided via a tie-breaker in the matches played on knock-out basis. Earlier, speaking on the occasion as the chief guest 55-Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin while underscoring the importance of games and sports assured the people to address the need of infrastructures for development of sports in the district.

He said that the purpose of TWMFT with the theme ‘peace and unity’ was amply served because the tournament not only spread peace but created great camaraderie and bonhomie among the players representing various parts of the district. He emphasized on peace and unity for development of any place.

The main force and inspiration who was also the President of the TWMFT organizing committee and MLA Wanglin Lowangdong while appreciating the organizers all those who were involved in successful conduct of the tournament conveyed the message of HCM Pema Khandu saying the the HCM had agreed to establish an outdoor sports stadium in Tirap district. He appreciated the players, organizers, district administration, Police and the spectators for maintaining peace during the whole tournament.

Tongluk, Public leader and Jiten Wangchha, Organizing Secretary also spoke on the occasion. There were altogether 27 teams from across Tirap district competing for the coveted trophy, handsome cash award of Rs 100,000, medals and certificates. The prizes for the winners, runners-up, best disciplined team and other individual prizes were given away by Chasum Wangchadong, SP, DC, Lowangdong and Sawin amidst a mammoth gathering. Domwang Lowang of Chinkoi FC was adjudged the highest scorer with 6 goals while Wanglak Lowang of the same team was the best goal keeper. Tuwang Hutu of Khunnu FC was the best player of the tournament and Khunnu FC was adjudged the best disciplined team. The 36 CRPF donated sports equipments to the players of both the teams. Needless to say that the TWMFT has generated tremendous enthusiasm and interest in football, especially among the youth of the district.
