Teachers and doctors are the most respected persons in the society- Guv P B Acharya

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh,  P.B. Acharya graced the inaugural function of the 10th General Conference of Arunachal Pradesh Doctors’ Association at Itanagar on 28th July 2017.

In his inaugural address, the Governor said that a healthy population is an essential element of inclusive development and nation-building. Universal access to minimum and quality health care is not only a social necessity but also an imperative for economic growth and prosperity.

The Governor said that the teachers and doctors are the most respected persons in the society. They are the foundations for a better and healthier society. The cause of the doctors and teachers are always close to my heart, he added.

While underscoring that achievers must be givers, the Governor pointed that empowered people must explore ways and means to address the challenges of the society without involving the Government. We need to change our mindsets, he emphasised.

Sharing his observation, the Governor emphasised on availability of health care services quantitatively in terms of physical infrastructure and trained manpower, including doctors, nurses, auxiliary nurses and midwifes. He also underscored on the quality and affordability healthcare services to vast majority of the population.

The Governor said that India possess an unmatched heritage represented by its ancient systems of medicine like Ayurvedic, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy which are a treasure house of knowledge for preventive and promotive healthcare. He called upon the doctors to promote AYUSH. He also highlighted the importance of Yoga.

The Governor advised the doctors to carry out research on health related issues of the state and also adopt villages. Let us give our best today for healthy and vibrant Arunachal Pradesh tomorrow, he appealed.

Earlier, the Governor felicitated the special invitees,  Nido Pavitra, former Parliamentary Secretary (Health), who was represented by his daughter,  Bikash Bage, the then OSD to Parliamentary Secretary (Health) and Dr. Mallo Tasso former APDA General Secretary. He also felicitated Central Executive Members 2014-17 on the occasion, while Director Health Services did the honour to new APDA team led by DR. Emi Rumi. Later, the Governor released the APDA souvenir 2017.

Speaking in the inaugural function, the Guest of Honour Dr. Moji Jini, Director, Health Services recalled his association with APDA. He called upon the doctors to look beyond their interest and serve the society with more dedication.

Highlighting on health sector in the State, the Director invited suggestions from the doctors to eradicate malpractices in the department.

Informing the Governor that the department has 8000 workforce and 800 health service centres in the State, the Director said it lack modern equipment and expertise. He requested the Governor to influence the Central and State Governments to address the problems.

In his keynote address, Dr. Biman Natung said tha APDA has traversed a long way journey from its humble formative years to becoming the mouth piece of the serving Doctors across the State. He urged the State Government to enact the Health and Security Protection Act in the State which will protect not only lives &properties but also the overall Hospital environment as well. He also appealed to the State Government to improve the working conditions of Medical staff and address the pay parity of Doctors in the spirit of ‘same pay for same work basis’.

Dr. Natung pleaded the Governor to advise the State Government to initiate suitable action on priority to address the problems and predicaments being faced by the Medical fraternity.

Earlier, in his welcome address, APDA General Secretary highlighted the activities take up by the association from 2014 to 2017. He informed that APDA has 793 members. Dr. Kipa Tubing also spoke on the occasion.

The two-day general conference is attended by medical practitioners from different parts of the State. It is organised by APDA in collaboration with National Health Mission, Arunachal Pradesh.
