Tata Sumo Road Accident; Khandu expresses deep shock over death of Tourists

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed deep shock and grief over the death of tourists, who were on a visit to Tawang here yesterday afternoon.

In a tragic accident, three tourists lost their lives while four sustained grievous injuries after their vehicle, a Tata Sumo, skidded off the road on their return journey from Bumla, a tourist hotspot on the Sino-Indian border here.

In a message this morning Khandu said loss of life especially of guests, who come visiting the picturesque Tawang, is very painful and irreparable.

“I pray Lord Buddha for eternal peace of the departed souls and speedy recovery of those injured. Not only the people of Tawang but the entire State of Arunachal Pradesh mourn the tragic incident,” Khandu said.

As per official reports a couple and a woman tourist from Kolkata were killed instantly while the driver and 3 other tourists (1 female, 2 males) suffered grievous injuries.

The Chief Minister extended gratitude to the District Police, District Tourism Office, Health department, Taxi and Sumo unions and NGOs for providing all possible assistance to the bereaved tourists.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister appealed all tourists, motorists and drivers to maintain extreme caution while visiting tourist places as the roads are treacherous and weather unpredictable. He also requested the district administration, police, tour operators and NGOs to assist tourists from outside in planning their visits to various places in and around Tawang keeping in view the road and weather conditions.

October to March is the period tourists throng to Tawang, known for its picturesque landscapes, lakes, monasteries and friendly people.
