Sahitya Academy award to Bodo writer

Bodo poet Anjali Basumatary, popularly known as Anju was selected  for the Sahitya Academy award this year. Basumatary won the award for her poetry book ‘Ang Mabrwi Dong Daswng”.

Hearing the news of selected for the award, Basumatary expressed happiness and thanks the jury and the Sahitya Academy for the award.  “I am happy for being selected for the award, she said at her house here at Tengapara in Kokrajhar.

Basumatary, who teaches Physics at Kokrajhar Govt College and is also the head of department had authored several books, mostly poem. Some of her books are  “Nwngni Jiu Angni Bibhungthi”, “Gwrbwni Radhab”, “Phasini Doulengao Okhaphwr”, and “Gwrbwni Kontahini”.  She was awarded Rangsar Literary Award by the Bodo Sahitya Sabha in 2002 for her book “Phasini Doulengao Okhaphwr”.

She was born in 15 July 1963 at Tengapara in Kokrajhar and did her schooling from Kokrajhar Girl’s Higher Secondary school in 1979 then joined from Cotton College, Guwahati and completed  her M.Sc from NEHU, Shillong in 1988. She completed her B.Ed from Bongaigaon B.Ed College in 1994 before joining the Kokrajhar Government college as a teacher.

 Many well wishers, including the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, family and friends congratulated her. The Bodo Sahitya Sabha(BSS)  has expressed their happiness and congratulate her for the award.
