NHIDCL Investing 15,000 Cr for 800 Kms roads in Arunachal

The Director of National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited ( NHIDCL ) Sanjay Jaju informed that NHIDCL is investing Rs 15,000 crore in Arunachal that covers about 800 kms of roads, which is half of the company’s investment country wide.  Sanjay Jaju called on Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday  along with his officials.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein discussed on issues pertaining to construction of highways being taken up by the corporation in Arunachal Pradesh.

 Land availability issues for compensatory afforestation to obtain forest clearances was discussed, on which the Director informed that it was causing the works to slow down. The Chief Minister assured his cooperation in this regard and to talk with concern authority for expediting the process of clearances.

Deputy Chief Minister urged the NHIDCL to immediately take up maintenance of Likabali-Basar-Bame road, which is causing untold miseries to commuters due to the poor condition of the roads. He also urged the company for flood and landslides mitigation measures to be adopted for the roads using latest technology.

Jaju informed that it is made mandatory to incorporate flood mitigation measures to be adopted by the contractors in their DPR. He also informed that post construction maintenance is also being taken up.

Further he informed that work on 4-laning of Nagaon-Hollongi highway, which is part of the ongoing 4-laning of Guwahati-Itanagar highway is being expedited and is expected to complete within one and half year. He also informed that Nagaon-Tinsukia 4-lane highway work is being taken up by the company to connect the eastern parts of Arunachal.

The Chief Minister expressed hoped that the completion of highway works taken up by NHIDCL will be a game changer in the region. He ensured that local participation is taken cared in the road building exercise through contractual works and employment to benefit them economically.
