NFR first Green Corridor to be commissioned in Chaparmukh-Silghat Town section

Various initiatives are being taken and implemented by the Northeast Frontier Railway towards fulfilling the goal of a Swachh Bharat under the leadership of the Railway Minister.

NFR first Green Corridor will be Chaparmukh – Silghat Town (81 km) section is planned to be converted into a discharge free Green Corridor within June this year.  Four more sections, like  Rangiya – Murkongselek (448 kms ) ,  Badarpur – Agartala (225 km), Silchar – Jiribam (50 km) and  Silchar – Bhairabi (83 km) are also proposed to be converted into Green Corridor within this financial year.

2990 environment friendly, zero discharge bio-toilets have been fitted in 865 coaches within N.F.Railway. All coaches are expected to be fitted with bio-toilets by the year 2019-20.

Clean Train Station (CTS) has been implemented in Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri and Katihar stations where coaches are cleaned through mechanized means during halts.

On Board Housekeeping Services (OBHS) for maintaining cleanliness of coaches on board has been provided in 50 pairs of trains. More trains will be provided with this facility shortly.

“Coach Mitra”, an app based system of receiving complaints from passengers on cleanliness, watering, amenity, lilen, petty repair, electrical problems etc. and its prompt disposal after attention is in operation in 50 pairs of trains satisfactorily.

Mechanised laundry for providing clean linen to passenger has already been commissioned in Kamakhya and New Jalpaiguri coaching Depots. Another mechanized laundry at Dibrugarh is expected to be functional shortly.

Vigorous efforts are being made to build up awareness about cleanliness in trains, stations, railway colonies and offices. Special drives are conducted in this regard. Street plays are staged, posters displayed and public address system in stations are being used to make people aware of the virtue of cleanliness.

Various organizations like Rotary Club, Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation, NGOs, Scouts & Guides are also associated with railways effort to build up awareness.

All these efforts have immensely helped to improve the overall scenario on cleanliness. It is evident from the latest all India survey report on cleanliness which was declared few days back. Rangiya station has secured 7th position among “A” category station, an improvement of 71 places in comparison to last year. Similarly, Guwahati station has secured 18th position among “A1” category station an improvement of 55 places from last year. Other important stations like Lumding, New Coochbehar, Alipurduar Jn have also improved their positions in comparison to last year.
