Next of Kin of BSF Martyrs Felicitated on Police Commemoration Day

Keeping the tradition and ethos of the force high, Police Commemoration Day was celebrated on 21 Oct 2016, at Frontier headquarter BSF located at Patgaon. On this auspicious occasion, rich tribute was paid to all those BSF  brave hearts who sacrificed their lives on the line of duty. Name of all those BSF martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the year 2016 were inscribed on the BSF War Memorial and rich tributes were paid by laying wreath.

The ‘Police Commemoration Day’ 2016  was attended by  Ashwini Kumar Singh, DIG /PSO Frontier HQ BSF Guwahati along with Dr B J Lalwani, DIG(Med) MS, CH CAPF Patgao, S K Maghu, DIG (Ops) and  M K Yadav, DIG (P) Ftr HQ BSF Guwahati. The event is being celebrated every year to pay homage to all police personnel who had sacrificed lives while performing their duties. Highlighting the role played by each BSF Martyrs, Ashwini Kumar Singh, DIG(PSO) stated that ‘’No duty can be as sacred as duty performed for security of the Nation especially duty performed by BSF troops being sentinels of the border’’. While tracing the history of Police Commemoration Day, he apprised that on 21 Oct 1959, a CRPF patrol party was ambushed by the Chinese Army in Hot Spring, Ladakh where 10 brave hearts sacrificed their lives for the Nation. Since then, this day is celebrated as Police Commemoration Day to pay tribute to police martyrs.

The Next of kins of BSF martyrs were felicitated by BSF authorities and establishment on this auspicious occasion. In the end, chief guest prayed for peaceful and prosperous life of all serving, retired BSF personnel and their families.

On the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, BSF Meghalaya Frontier paid rich homage to 473 martyrs of all Central Armed Police Forces and State Police Organizations who have made supreme sacrifice for the nation.54 brave BSF personnel including 03 Officers, 09 Subordinate Officers and 42 Other Ranks laid down their lives while performing the duties in different parts of the Country. However, 04 brave Meghalaya State Police personnel laid down their lives while performing their duties.

During the commemoration day parade, names of all martyrs of police and Central Armed Police Forces who sacrificed their life during last one year were read over by  P K Dubey, Inspector General, Meghalaya Frontier and two minutes silence observed to pay the homage to all martyrs.

Police Commemoration Day is observed on 21st Oct’ every year in remembrance of the 10 CRPF personnel who were killed on that date in 1959 at Hot Spring Post in Ladakh on Indo-China border.

P K Dubey Inspector General laid wreath at War Memorial and paid homage to the martyrs. All Officers and men of Frontier HQ BSF Meghalaya, Sector HQ Mawpat and local units were present during the parade. Similar programme was organized at Sector Headquarter Tura and Jowai also.
