Chief Minister Pema Khandu conveyed his heartiest greetings and best wishes to the media fraternity of the state on eve of National Press Day being celebrated across the country on Thursday.

“It is heartening to know that the press fraternity of Arunachal Pradesh, despite being still nascent and growing, has kept alive its tradition of celebrating the National Press Day every year on 16th November religiously by reiterating its role in nation building and creating a conscious and participatory citizenry. I sincerely appreciate the journalist bodies for their all out efforts to promote journalistic ethics, encourage budding writers and help Arunachal media carve a niche for itself in the vast canvas of mass media in the country,” he said in a message here this evening.

Taking the opportune moment, Khandu appealed the state’s media fraternity to showcase and promote the rich cultural, religious, adventure and natural potentials of the State and its unique identity of unity in diversity.

“It is but natural for media to highlight current affairs and hard-stories but I believe that Arunachal Pradesh is a haven for soft and developmental stories without the need of any sensationalism. The basis should be to promote and project Arunachal Pradesh in proper light to the outside world,” he pointed.

The Chief Minister hailed the invaluable contributions made by the state media in evolution and development of Arunachal Pradesh by working within the parameters of the great Indian Democracy. He assured the state government’s all out support to the genuine efforts of the media persons and media houses, both print and electronic, with the belief that without a strong and grounded fourth pillar, democracy will always be at stake.

“Progress and peace of the state depends largely on the media persons and their writings! I hope members of the Arunachal Press Club, Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists and the Arunachal Electronic Media Association  would stand up to their responsibility not only as ‘voice of the people’ but also as conscious and positive-thinking citizens,” Khandu added.
