Nabam Rebia chaired the Environment Ministers conference held at Delhi

The State Environment Ministers’ conference was held at New Delhi on June 4th & 5th,  2018, wherein Ministers, State Principal Secretaries , Secretary (Environment), Chairman, State Pollution Control Boards,  NGOs and other Central & State Government officers participated as delegates.

The four sessions were held in two days, the topics Climate Change, National Clean Air Programme, Environment Impact Assessment and Waste to Wealth were presented by the senior officers of the Ministry of Env, Forests & Climate Change, Government of India. All the four topics were discussed and debated by the delegates. The first session was on State Action Plan on Climate Change, which was presented by A.K. Mehta, Addl. Secretary, Ministry of Env., Forests & CC.

Rebia while congratulating Dr. Harsh Vardhan & Dr. Mahesh Sharma for organising State Environment Ministers Conference on such important issues thanked them for giving him opportunity to chair the first session of the conference.

He informed the delegates that the State of Arunachal Pradesh having rich bio-diversity has about 81% of forest & tree cover. This year, India is the Host Country declared by the United Nations Environment for celebration of World Environment Day 2018 being celebrated on 5th June 2018 on theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

In his concluding remark, Rebia said that there is urgent need to re-orientation of state action on climate change, re-orient to facilitate achievements of country’s targets for post 2020, revision to be based on evolving scientific evidence on global warming impacts, vulnerability and NDC’s targets consistent with NAPCC. He also said that there should be focus to integrate and mainstream climate change concerns in respective sectors rather than as a tool for seeking finance formulate multi-state (Regional), innovative, transformative project for smooth and faster access to climate finance.

Minister Nabam Rebia,  Chairman  APSPCB Techi Tagi Tara, PCCF & Principal Secretary  Omkar Singh and APCCF (Env.&CC)  A.K. Shukla, also attended the plenary session on 5th June 2018 at Vighan Bhawan, New Delhi, which was addressed by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on the occasion of World Environment Day 2018 on the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.
