Arunachal Chief Minister Kalikho Pul today assured his full support to the police personnel in discharging their duty with assurance that there will be “no interference” from the government.

Pul said this during his interaction with the newly selected candidates of the Arunachal Pradesh Police Service (APPS) at his office.

“I understand the difficult situation in which the police personnel have to serve,” said the chief minister. “They risk their career and life but they hardly get appreciation. My government will ensure that their service is fully acknowledged.”

Advising them not to be biased in their duty, Pul reminded them that their duty is towards the people and not political leaders.

“We are not to appease each other but to serve our people. We must ensure that no one takes the law for granted,” Pul said.

When dealing with the law breakers, Pul said “the motive should be to reform not to punish.”

“Our position demands high responsibility. We are few among the 13 lakhs population of our state selected to serve our people. We do not hold any permanent power over our position. We are mere facilitator assigned with certain duties,” said the chief minister.

Also urging them to report on any lapses in the functioning of the government, he appreciated the hard work put by the candidates in passing the recently concluded test for APPSC examinations.

“I understand that many government rules are obsolete and it pains me to see that it took three years for the APPSC examinations to finally conclude. To prevent any such future inconveniences, your support to the government in taking corrective measures is highly essential,” he said.

Taking serious note of the one and half month delay in joining the 11-month police training course at North East Police Academy in Shillong, the chief minister ordered for immediate expediting of all formal procedures for their immediate appointment in the services.

He also advised the selected candidates to encourage future aspirants of the civil services.

“You must share with them your stories of hardships, stories that will inspire. Keep writing in newspapers and social media,” he urged.
