MTB Tawang Challenge ( Cycle Competition)  flagged off

The 2nd Mount Terrain Biking (MTB) challenger (cycle competition ) flagged off  amid huge gathering from IG Park today. The expedition which shall reach Tawang in six days through another route via Sagalee, Seppa, Bomdila.

Addressing the gathering Hayuliang MLA Dasanglu Pul said that cycling is an adventure and it help in maintaining a good health and physical fitness. She also invite the riders of the state and region to visit her area in the next ride/expedition which would held later this year.

Guest of honour Roing MLA Mutchu Mithi in his address said that if you have talent, determination, enthuses one can become a good sportsmen and can began it as an career, while lauding the opportunity/facility of the state government he appeal upon the youths and sport person to play with sincerity and determination and take away the opportunity of the state government.

Sports & Youth Affairs Secretary Dani Salu assured all support from the department. He said that the MTB have been declared as yearly event and the 2nd such programme is also being held which shall went though Dibang Valley to Lohit and then to Anjaw.

Youth Affairs Director D K Dinglow, Sports Authority Joint Director Ramesh Lingi briefed about the expedition and other activities of the MTB cycle competition programme.

Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) Vice Chairman Dony Nich, Director Sports Tadar Apa, Arunachal Cycling Association (ACA) Vice President Pura Khunkang, General Secretary Tadar Gunu and several other eminent personalities among sports lovers of capital complex were present during the flagged off ceremony.

It must be mention that The 1st MTB Tawang Challenge (cycling competition) was the North East India’s first full-fledged MTB cycling competition riding from Guwahati, to Tawang Spanning around 500+ kilometres, a tour rides in support of Tawang Festival.

It is an attempt to promote and showcase adventure tourism potential and the rich heritage of the pristine land of the state and the  event is being organized coinciding with the Tawang festival so that riders reaching Tawang also enjoy Tawang festival.

The 1st MTB Tawang challenge got an opportunity to be flagged off by CM of Assam on 23rd October 2017 from Guwahati and flag in by CM of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu in Tawang on 28th October 2017 at Tawang festival Ground.

The 1st MTB Tawang challange was also of 6 stage competition from Guwahati entering via, Rowta- Balemu- Kalaktang- Rupa- Bomdila- Dirang-Sella top- Jang and Tawang while this challenger expedition shall went through Itanagar to Sagalee, Seppa, Bomdila and then to Tawang and shall attend the famous Tawang festival there.

All together there were 18 riders, 10 support team, 4 cycling commissioners and 6 officials & officers took part in the 1st Edition competition wherein  while this time there are 23 riders and are from various parts of region and country which include from Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and others and a total team and crew members of 51 shall reach Tawang in next 6 days.

Last year Devendra Kumar of Himachal took first position,  Yogesh Kumar of Hariyana second position and Ahondo Menjo local boy from Lowar Dibang valley got third position and he was also awarded best promising rider of the event.

The riders will expedition shall be culminated on October 27 covering almost 520 Km of maximum 13700 ft elevation of 6 stage Ride and for which a Reece of the new route was also conducted twice by the deptt.

Technical officer from Assam Kukil Das while talking to this daily said that this year there are 11 riders from Assam and mostly have also participated last year also. The new route is a challenging one hope the riders will enjoy the uphill and downhill ride during their competition.
