MAY Day Celebration: Pul Commits to Welfare of Workers

Chief Minister Kalikho Pul today reiterated his government’s full commitment for the welfare and well being of the working class during the May Day celebration here in presence of labour and employment minister Kumar Waii, MLA Tesam Pongte and several other guests.
He said that such would be the government’s commitment that the workers would not be able to find excuse to place demands or stage dharna and strikes for it to be fulfilled.
Appreciating the enormous contributions of the working class in progress, growth and development of the state, the CM announced to increase welfare benefit schemes of Arunachal Pradesh building and other construction workers welfare board (APB&OCWWB).
He informed that the as per the new scheme of the state govt , in case of normal death Rs 50,000 will be paid to the nominee or dependent of a member towards death benefits. In case of death due to accident during the course of employment the nominee would be entitled to Rs 1 lakh.
In addition, the registered workers will also be covered under the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Yozna and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti BimaYojana.
Expressing that the state government is deeply concerned and well aware of the plight and difficulties of working class in supporting their child’s education, the CM informed that financial assistance would be provided through labour board.
Also he announced that for those pursuing diploma courses and other pre-degree courses, the board would bear one-time expenditure to the tune of Rs 10000.
On housing loan, the CM said that the existing loan of Rs 50,000 available to the registered workers has been enhanced to Rs 1 lakh.
For medical assistance, the state government said the existing benefit of Rs 200 for first 5 days and Rs 20 for every subsequent day has been enhances to Rs 2000 and Rs 100 respectively. Also the CM announced that the disability pension of existing Rs 150 has been enhanced to Rs 1000.
He assured that during his rule, it would be ensured that the working class would be provided with free treatment and free medicines. In case of emergencies, he said that helicopter would be pressed into service for immediate evacuation for workers also stating that such facilities would not be limited only to VIPs and government officers.
Further, the CM informed that the existing financial assistance of Rs 5000 available to the worker for purchase of tools has been enhanced to Rs 15000, adding that many more welfare schemes are on the pipeline.
To ensure equal job opportunities for all districts and so that no region or communities are deprived, the CM announced that the recruitment to the group C&D posts created would be filled up at district level only. He informed that all departments have been issued directives not to fill up such posts directly at state level.
In view of the meager wages paid to the casual and contingency workers, he informed that the state government would be provided free water, which would be extended to rural folks as well privately employed workers.
Pointing out the poor hygiene in health institutions, the CM requested that the post of sanitary assistant and sweeper be left for those who are willing to do that job because it required cleaning human wastes, wastes from dead, postmortem etc. Since many appointed ones are unenthusiastic about their jobs, cleanliness and hygiene are seriously affected, said the CM.
