Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering today joined the celebration of the Keh- Meh -Ha festival  at picturesque Aohali Village under Mebo Circle in East Siang District. Extending his festival greetings on the occasion of the major agricultural festival of the Idu Community, Ering lauded the community effort to preserve their traditional customs and heritage which is closely tied to the agricultural cycle, while calling upon the Idu brethren of Aohali inparticular and others in general to promote and safeguard their rich cultural heritage for posterity.

Speaking on the development front and also responding to a Memorandum submitted on the occasion, Ering announced for sanction of Rs. 7 lacs for Irrigation channel and also Rs. 3 lacs for Boundary wall of Reh-ko (Community Hall) of Aohali Village from his MPLAD fund.

Deputy Commisioner,  East Siang, Isha Khosla also while joining the festive occasion as the Guest of Honour, called upon the community members  to encourage the youth of the Aohali  to tap the fertile land  by taking up organic cultivation as viable economic activity ,as there is a huge demand and market for organic and herbal produces.

The traditional agricultural practices of the tribal community need to be carried forward, while also incorporating scientific methods. The DC on the occasion also took the opportunity to appeal the village elders to guide the youth to keep away from drugs and alcohol and provide them education for bright future.

It is festival related to the first seasonal harvesting of crops like paddy and other various edible items starting from the middle part of August – September (Puilapu) every year. The Festival promotes unity and brotherhood and participated by each and everyone in their respective village. Every Year deity goddess of “ APEH –MILLI ( Goddess 0f Crops) “ and APEH- GONLO ( Guards the crops from Disasters) for prosperity and bumper harvest.The Festival also helps the community to preserve folksongs, folklore and oral literature of the hardworking and artistic Idu Mishmi  Community in today’s times.
