The 31st statehood day was celebrated with much gusto and fervour here in Jubilee Ground Tezu today. DC Danish Ashraf graced the occasion as chief guest and unfurled the National Flag.

Praising Arunachal Pradesh for its natural beauty, Ashraf said that the name was coined by B.D Shastri in 1972 and aptly promoted its position as the land of the rising Sun. He said that Arunachal’s diverse tribes symbolized unity in diversity and exhorted the youth to know one’s history.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Ashraf said that we must be the change we want to see in others and urged everyone to think creatively to generate  more number of employment. He opined that United Nation’s millennium developmental plan and India Vision 2020 would not be possible without generation of employment for the vast number of educated youth. He also stressed on plantation of trees to minimise issues of deforestation.

Terming Lohit as a district steeped in history, Ashraf said “Its special  mention has been made even in Verrier Elwin’s now classic book Philosophy for NEFA where he has narrated its connection with the legend of Rukmini, Vidharba and Raja Bhismak. As a student of history myself, I can vouch for the necessity of research and urge the youth to dwell deep into these fields”.

Saying that statehood day was a good opportunity to discuss and deliberate on various schemes implemented by the district administration in the past one year, Ashraf mentioned that health, education, communication, technology, social welfare and disaster management were his special focuses.

He specifically urged the PGCIL to complete the 132 KV line at the earliest possible so that the recurring voltage problem would be solved for one and all. Stressing on timely conduct of DPC meetings and thereafter due promotions, Ashraf said that it resonated with the CM’s explicit instructions. He added that number of developmental activities like renovation of schools, college, anganwadi centres, opening of blood bank, procurement of medical equipments through CSR, construction of smart classrooms, launch of Mission Suraksha to combat issues of unimmunized and drop out children were taken in his time.

The celebration was attended by HoDs, branch officers and staff of various departments. Students of VKV Tafragam presented a band display followed by a mixed group dance and Mishmi dance. Sport games like running race and cockfight were conducted for school students who participated enthusiastically. Stalls put up by various SHGs from Tezu and Wakro circle were selling organic food products as well traditional items and were found to be doing a brisk business.
