Labour Wages may hike soon- Khandu

Chief Minister Pema Khandu today announced to hike labour wages of casual and contingency staff working under the state government as per the new wage code Bill that was approved by the Union Cabinet last month.

Addressing the workers gathered from all over the state at the Tennis Court in IG Park here, the Chief Minister assured that as and when the new wage code bill is passed by the parliament, it will be soon implemented in the state.

He, however, also assured that if the new wage bill fails to come up in this monsoon session of parliament for approval or in the next session, the state government will come up with a good wage package in the coming state’s budget session.

The Chief Minister also announced a gratuitous relief of Rs 2000 for all individual worker during the mega rally cum mass general meeting of the joint working committee of Arunachal Pradesh Trade Unions (JWCAPTU).”

He informed that consecutively in the last two budget session, the state government had hiked the labour wages by Rs 1000. The Chief Minister assured that under his leadership, the working class community will never face injustice and said that he understands their issues as he too was born into a working class family.

On policy decisions for labour welfare, the Chief Minister assured to bring out a corrective policy on Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) adding that earlier implementation of such scheme in PWD department had failed. On job reservation for casual and contingency staff for regular appointments, the Chief Minister assured to implement 50% job reservation against the direct recruitment.

He also informed that muster roll system has already been abolished in the forest and environment department through an order released by PCCF, which will enable the labour wages to be directly deposited in the worker’s account.

On compassionate appointment, the Chief Minister assured that a clear cut policy will be brought out to address such issues. He also assured to bring out a policy decision to streamline the working of worker’s welfare board to address the welfare of the working community. In addition, the Chief Minister agreed on worker’s demand for implementation of colour code for taxis.

The Chief Minister appealed the working community to work for the welfare of the public reminding them that their job is also to serve the public. As long as we all draw salary from the government, we are to keep in mind that we are paid to serve the public, he said.

Earlier speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein informed that state government has increased the honorarium of Angandwadi workers to Rs 4500 per month and Anganwadi helpers to Rs 3000 per month.

Also informing on various initiatives for working community, he appealed them to actively participate in the implementation of various state and national development programmes.

Chairman JWCAPTU Changma Tajo and General Secretary JWCAPTU Kenkar Yomcha also spoke on the occasion. A colourful cultural dances were presented by various cultural groups representing different tribes during the occasion. The Chief Minister gave away Rs 2 lakhs from his personal means to the cultural troupes as gesture of appreciation for their performance.
