Khandu inaugurates Sports Carnival, Launches Sports Policy

Chief Minister Pema Khandu today declared open the second Sports Carnival here and also launched Arunachal Pradesh Sports Policy 2017, in presence of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, State BJP President Tapir Gao, Sports Parliamentary Secretary Nyamar Karbak and other dignitaries at the general ground. The sports carnival is hosted by Kamba Banggo Sports Association and organised by the state sports department.

Khandu in his speech congratulated the sports department for the  launch of sports policy and said that the policy will provide necessary incentive and recognition to the budding sportsperson and achievers from the state. He also said the objective of the policy is to pursue excellence and to put in place a system to encourage and foster the identification, and development of young talents and promotion of sports for all.

He said the sports policy was first approved in the 2012 state cabinet meeting; but in  subsequent years it remained only in papers. After persistent efforts from the present government, the state’s sports policy has been finally launched, said the Chief Minister.

Khandu said the state government is focused on youth development and in nurturing their sporting talent. He said every district shall have outdoor and indoor stadium including a new sports stadium for Itanagar.

He informed that all incomplete works for the construction of stadiums across the state taken up earlier under Special Plan Assistance (SPA) will be now financed by the state government. Accordingly the sports department has been directed to start the work through state funding, informed the Chief Minister.

Also he informed that in his recent meeting with Union Sports Minister Col Rajyavardhan Rathore, the ministry has asked for proposal for indoor and outdoor stadium in the state. Accordingly the sports department has been asked to finalise the proposals to be sent to
Delhi.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by local MLA Karbak, the Chief Minister promised to sanction Rs 32 crores for a bridge over river Yomgo to connect Kombo village. He also promised to take up road construction works under CRF to connect villages beyond Kombo village. He further assured for a mini secretariat, a tourist lodge and assured to look into the water and electricity shortages in the area. The Chief Minister accordingly asked the local MLA to prepare DPR for all these projects.

Earlier the Deputy Chief Minister in his speech appreciated the sports department for bringing out the sports policy and said that the policy will help sportsperson in building sports as their career. He said the state government is highly focused on innovative solutions for development of Arunachal. Accordingly, the state government is
organizing a policy conclave shortly involving the experts, think tanks for bringing better solutions. The conclave will be the basis on which the next years budget will be prepared bringing in innovations, informed Mein.

Earlier this morning, Khandu inaugurated the Island Resort at the banks of Yomgo giver soon after his arrival here. Thereafter he laid the foundation stone for Providing Water Supply (PWS) at Darak township and for an enquiry cum office building at Kamba. He also laid
the foundation stone for a multipurpose badminton court at Ruyi Kamba and Darak. He also inaugurated the administrative RCC double storied building at Donyi Polo govt college, Kamki and a veterinary dispensary centre at Kamki.

Deputy Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for augmentation of water supply to Liromoba headquarters and for a double storied building for community health centre in Kamba. He also laid the foundation stone for a multipurpose badminton court at Liromoba and audience gallery at general ground for Yomcha.

Gao laid the foundation stone for multipurpose community hall for Darak village and inaugurated the Keba Dere at Kamba.
