Chief Minister Pema Khandu today held a marathon review meeting of the Group of Secretaries (GOS) along with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Education Minister Honchun Ngandam and PHE&WS and IPR Minister Bamang Felix here today in presence of Chief Secretary in-Charge Satya Gopal that lasted for about 5 hours.

Earlier last month, the Chief Minister had constituted the Group of Secretaries in six different themes to translate his vision for Arunachal into reality with ‘team work’ as the catalyst. Khandu had sought ideas and suggestions from the GoS in six broad themes viz ‘Good Governance- Challenges and Opportunities in Arunachal Pradesh’, ‘Arunachal as the Organic Hub and Fruit Bowl of India’, ‘Arunachal as the Centre for Wellness, Spiritual and Adventure Tourism’, ‘Employment Generation and Skill Development’, ‘Health and Education- quality access to all’ and ‘Land – can its resource potential be unlocked?’

The main objective was to encourage and allow top bureaucrats and experts of the state to participate in the policy making process by doing research and submit a vision document to the state government in the respective themes.

The six GOS with about 7-8 members and a Chairman each were constituted, which held its first meeting under the Chief Secretary on February 3 last with the decision to suggest the government with suitable and viable suggestions so that the vision plan of making Arunachal a front runner state is achieved.

Each of the GOS today made detailed power point presentations on their respective themes broadly outlining the current status, potentials, challenges and the roadmap ahead. All the groups in their suggestions presented both short-term and long-term goals and ways and means to achieve these.

Giving a patient hearing to the suggestions made, the Chief Minister congratulated the GOS members for undertaking in-depth research and analysis and coming up with feasible vision documents. He assured that all the suggestions made will be discussed by the government in detail and implemented as and where necessary.

“I am proud to have a team of officers who have seriously taken the responsibility entrusted on them and actually done in-depth field work and research to come up with such great suggestions. Your presentations have given a concrete direction to the state government’s vision to accelerate development, especially in the six particular themes that we have taken up on priority,” Khandu observed in his concluding remarks.

He particularly appreciated the suggestions put in for good governance and called for actual implementation of government decisions at the ground level. Many a times government decisions do not benefit the actual beneficiaries for whom the decision is take, he pointed.

Khandu also admitted the issues confronting land management due to various laws and acts that are very stringent and assured that he would call a separate meeting to exclusively discuss on it.

“The Government is extremely thankful to the GOS for their hard work and we will again meet to further our goal in achieving the vision for our state in April next,” he added.

Meanwhile, a team of officials of Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (APAMB) headed by its Chairman Ngurang Pinch were invited to the meeting as the Board has a major role to play in transforming Arunachal Pradesh into an Organic Hub and Fruit Bowl of India.

The Board too made a detailed presentation with inputs and suggestions for a road ahead, which would be included in the vision document of the concerned GOS.
