Kaziranga University’s annual winter fest, ‘Talent Tantra 2017’ Concludes

The 8th of January saw the conclusion of one of the most-awaited celebrations in the region -Kaziranga University’s annual winter fest, ‘Talent Tantra 2017’. Not only did it showcase the skills and talents of the youth of the North-East through various competitions and events, the fest also featured an incredible artist line-up of Mo & the Shooting Stars, Parikrama, Angaraag ‘Papon’ Mahanta and Vishal-Shekhar, on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th of January respectively.

The artists, who graced the occasion with their presence, definitely added much grandeur and pomp to the celebrations. Papon, addressing the crowd, expressed his heartfelt gratitude and applauded the Pro-Chancellor of Kaziranga University, Shri Basant Khetan, for being a true ‘son of the soil’, giving so much back to the region, especially in the form of one of the best career universities in the North East.

Talent Tantra 2017 included a plethora of diverse events and shows, which involved many distinguished faces from around the country. Dr. Uddhab Bharali, the renowned Assamese innovator was one of the guest speakers at the event, as was Indrajeet Bhuyan, the youngest cyber security expert from the North-East.

Remarkable events also include an astounding military dog show by the Assam Rifles Dog Training Centre conducted by Colonel Samuel, and an interesting Arms exhibition by the Para Special Forces of the Indian Army, a unit tasked with missions such as special operations, direct action, hostage rescue and counter-terrorism.  The students of KU were also privileged to hear from Colonel Ashok Bhuyan himself about a career in the armed forces. Kaziranga University is thankful to Major General Rajiv Mishra for his unending support in making this collaboration with the Indian Army possible.

Rangmanch, the skit competition was mentored by noted members of the Assamese Film Fraternity including Manjula Baruah, Hemanta Das, Prerana Barbarooah and Sanjeev Borgohain. This event was opened by a group of young, differently-abled children, representing the NGO ‘Prerna’ from Jorhat, whose play was based on the theme of patriotism. Another major event was Winter Runway, the fashion show, which saw noted guest judges such as model Jantee Hazarika, Mr. India 2015 finalist Saagar Gera, designers Payal Chadha and J&Sasha, and fashion consultant Anu Merton Jha.

Organized by the student body, under the able guidance of the young and dynamic Director of Kaziranga University, Ms. Rainy Khetan, Talent Tantra 2017 was a grand success which set a benchmark for more to come. Ms. Khetan not only thanked the students who put their heart and soul into organizing the event, but also commended the all the participants, guests, media, sponsors as well as the entire KU family for their enthusiasm and support.

With an aim of empowering students and encouraging them to take initiative, Talent Tantra 2017 has helped hone their skills and enabled them for brighter futures.
