Itanagar: National Seminar on Tribal Issues and Challenges Concludes

A two-day national seminar on Understanding Tribes of Northeast India: Issues and Challenges organized by jointly DNGC and other organisation  successfully concluded today at DNGC campus.

A two-day national seminar on Understanding Tribes of Northeast India: Issues and Challenges organized by the Department of Anthropology, Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), Itanagar in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal, Indian Council of Social Science Research-North Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-NERC), Shillong, Centre for Research & Documentation, Ama-Aba Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd., Ziro, and Arunachal Anthropological Forum (AAF), Doimukh successfully concluded today at DNGC campus, Itanagar.

In the valedictory ceremony, Chief Guest, Dr. Tayek Talom, Director, Higher and Technical Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh talked on the need of being patient among the people of North-East India while dealing with mainland Indians. He stressed on the importance of such seminar in eradicating the confusions because of our physiological difference.

Prof. Tamo Mibang, Former Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) and Professor of Tribal Studies in Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, RGU, delivered the valedictory address in which he talked about the tribal development and tribal transformation. He remarked that although the tribals of present era are no more the tribals of yesteryears but various issues related to tribal people are still prevalent. He appreciated the Department of Anthropology, DNGC for organizing a national seminar on very important theme.

Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, Director, IGRMS, Bhopal and chairperson of the valedictory session stressed the need for understanding of tribes and their problems across the country. To this effect, he praised the Department of Anthropology and the college for organising such a national seminar in an excellent manner. He expressed that this sort of academic discourse will definitely be a boon for tribes of north-eastern region of India in understanding the plights of these people and also informed that IGRMS, Bhopal will always support such noble endeavour.

Earlier, Dr. N.T. Rikam, Principal and Patron of the seminar in his message congratulated the Department of Anthropology for organising a national seminar within a year of its establishment in the college.

The seminar has 60 research papers divided into 12 technical sessions spanning over two days and has 301participants comprising of faculty members, research scholars, and students from different parts of the country.

Tame Ramya (Tarh), Convenor expressed gratefulness and gratitude to the dignitaries for their present in such key seminar of national significance and also extended heartfelt gratitude to Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal, Indian Council of Social Science Research-North Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-NERC), Shillong, Centre for Research & Documentation, Ama-Aba Multipurpose Coop. Society Ltd., Ziro, and Arunachal Anthropological Forum (AAF), Doimukh for financial, moral and physical support in organizing the seminar.
