The first edition of Capital Complex Inter-Club Badminton Championship inaugurated by Laisam Simai, MLA , Nampong on Friday at the MLA cottage badminton stadium here.
80 shuttlers representing 5 different badminton clubs of the Capital Complex are participating in the tournament. A trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 60,000 will be awarded to the winners and runners-up respectively .
On the occasion highlighting the Govt policy for meritorious sports persons Simai informed to the participants that “Through the sports one can not only gain physical and mental fitness but also can earn bread and butter,”.
He further said that Chief Minister Pema Khandu-led-government is focused and committed on providing ample opportunities and avenues for the deserving sports persons.
Congratulating the Capital Badminton Club (CBC) for coming up with a tournament that provides a platform for all the budding shuttlers, Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) secretary Bamang Tago said that the participants should not take the tournament lightly as the best performing team and individuals would get a direct entry into the Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Level Badminton Championship which would be held later this year.
Stressing on the importance of providing proper infrastructure, Tago announced that 8 new badminton courts would be soon established in the state.
CBC president Toko Chada said that the main motive of organizing the tournament was to encourage more people, particularly youngsters to take up sports, especially badminton and provide them with a stage to showcase their talent.
“We expect to see more participants in the next edition,” Chada said.
Organized by CBC under the aegis of ASBA, the finals of the championship would be played on Saturday.
