Itanagar: 6th University Badminton League-2018 concludes

The 6th University Badminton League-2018 in RGU organised by the Officers’ Club of Rajiv Gandhi University (OCRGU) with men’s doubles event for both intra-club category and open category have concluded on 21st November, 2018 evening with student’s team lifting the Open championship trophy.

The post graduate student duo of Kenli Riram and Karli Poyom clinched the Men’s doubles title in a one-sided final match defeating the another students’ pair of Dagge Ango and Modak Kadu with the score reading 21-12 & 21-17.

While, in the intra-club doubles competition final the pair of Dr. David Pertin & Pura Deilyang emerged as champions by defeating Terge Sora & Dr. Tadam Ruti with the score reading 21-17 & 21-19, which was witnessed by a huge gathering of spectators comprising of faculty members, officers, research scholars, students and staffs and badminton enthusiasts from nearby area.

In another keenly contested match for the third place in open category the research scholars’ pair of Techi Sissal & Krishna Chetry got the better of the officers’ duo of Dr. Gibji Nimasow & Pura Deilyang by 21-14 & 21-18.

Earlier, RGU’s Controller of Examination in-charge Dr. Nani Tamang Jose, who attended as Chief Guest in the valedictory function said that, sports is an integral part of human life. He appreciated the sportsmanship spirit shown by the players and hoped that this trend as started by the Officers’ club in giving a platform to the sports lovers will grow stronger and stronger. He also assured to initiate and extend all possible support to make games and sports facilities improved in the campus in the days to come.

The Patron of the UBL-2018 and Joint Registrar of RGU Dr. David Pertin in his speech was in all praise for the club for creating an environment and exclusive ambience of sports where all could come together and play. He also hailed the players for their spirit of participation.

Earlier, the chairman of the officers’ club Dr. Gibji Nimasow delivered the welcome address and briefed about the league.

The best player of the championship award was bagged by Kenli Riram of the Dept. of Sociology. Besides, three special awards were also given away.

54 years old player Hage Kojee, lone girl player Gunia Dele and Opang Paron were awarded the strongest player of the tournament, Rising Star of the tournament and Upcoming Player of the tournament awards respectively.

The trophies, medals and cash prizes with citations were given away to all the players, match officials and volunteers by the chief guest, Patron, Chairman and Convenor of the Officers’ Club-RGU.
