Itanagar: 1st Sub-junior state ranking tournament concludes

The 1st Sub-Junior State Ranking Tournament concluded successfully at MLA Cottage Badminton Hall here today amid huge gathering of sports lovers and host of dignitaries.

A total of 144 players in both boys and girls sections from across the state partook in the tourney. The participants locked horns in six different events in the tourney, organised by Arunachal State Badminton Association (ABSA).

In under-13 Boys Double, Geson Potom and Pakli Bagra emerged as winner and runner-up were begged by S Gongo and S Tamang. The third placed was shared by Dou Nyete-Rohan and Duo Chow Soijan Manlong- Nima Lama.

The gold medal of under-13 Boys category was also won by Pakli Bagra followed by his duo in doubles Geson Potom. Nabam Issac and Taku Manku begged the Bronze in the under-13 category.

In the girls’ category for the under-13 age group, Jamba Waii won her maiden gold of the tournament. The second place was begged by Beryl Saring, followed by Boristha Boraguhai and Sonam Chotten in third position.

Samuel Tamang emerged as the winner in under-11 boys category. The second place of this category was begged by Gunveer Gongo, followed by Licha Gomsh and Taku Manku for the third place. The gold medal of the girl section under this age group was won by Adam Doyom and the silver medal was begged by Laa Nanu while, Jessica Saring and Yami Riang shared the third position.

In the under-9 boys categories, Dindo Liggi begged the gold medal and Promod Joshi begged the silver medal. The bronze medal of this category was begged by Licha Polu and Joram Tado.

Tania Yasap, Referee informed that a total of 8 events were scheduled to be held in the tournament but only six events were held as the required minimum participants for a tournament was not registered in under-13 girls double and under-9 girls categories.

Meanwhile, Tesam Pongte sitting MLA from Changlang attended the tournament as Chief Guest expressed words of appreciation to the organizer for their efforts and dedication. He further advised the parents to supports their kids in this endeavor.

“Winning and losing is a part of competition, and it’s our duty to guide the kids to cope with losing and winning,” added Pongte.

Sitting MLA from Jairmapur Laisam Simai while attending as guest of honour urge upon the parents and all stake holders to promote their children in sports and avail the government quota of meritorious sports person of state and get employment, at the same time children/students should also devote their time and motivate their energy in sporting activities while paying due attention in their academic career.

Former Home Minister who also was present in the occasion shared the prospect of sports in the state. “Sports and Tourism are something that any government needs to focus upon,” added Waii.

He further stated that he is building a Badminton Academy in the state which is expected to be completed soon. “It is important that the young generations are provided with well equipped infrastructure and world class coaches, so that they can represent the state and country” said Waii.

Prizes, medals and certificate were distributed by the dignitary which Kumar Waii contributes the cash prize to all the medal winners from his source.
