The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) along with the First Lady of the State Smt Neelam Misra attended the Hornbill Festival in the Naga Heritage Village of Kisama, Nagaland on 9th December 2017.

Extending warm greetings and good wishes on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh to every citizen of Nagaland, the Governor said that the Hornbill Festival showcases North East India’s rich cultural diversity, exotic locations, pristine green environment and most hospitable communities.

Stating that Hornbill is the State Bird of Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor said that celebrating the festival brings people of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland together. He extended invitation to all to come to Arunachal Pradesh for promotion of cultural exchange. The Governor invited the youth of Nagaland to come for studies to Arunachal Pradesh which has excellent academic institutions.

Recalling his association with Nagaland, the Governor informed that after getting selected for Indian Army, he got his training in Kohima Company at Indian Military academy in 1960 and did two tenures in Nagaland in 1964 and 1967. In true spirit of National integration and unity in diversity, while in Nagaland, his south Indian troops learned about Naga culture and dance and arts, which they proudly presented back home in Kerala and earned appreciation of the people there.

This cultural bond has removed the barrier in the mindset of the people of other States and they now appreciate North East as an aesthetic land, the Governor said. He congratulated the people of Nagaland for organising the Hornbill Festival, which has earned international fame.

This celebration along its festivity aims to reinforce our effort to preserve our treasured traditions, flora and fauna, he underscored.

The Governor also urged the people to put in a concerted effort in bringing absolute peace and tranquillity in the region.
