The union minister for road transports, highway and shipping Nitin Jairam Gadkari inaugurated the 2-lane Papu-Yupia-Hoj-Potin and 4-lane Itanagar-Holongi road projects constructed by the PWD (highway) on Saturday at Borum village amidst a mammoth gathering.

While addressing the people after the inauguration, Gadkari while expressing his happiness over the drastic improvement of road connectivity in the frontier state Arunachal Pradesh, fully endorsed the views earlier aired by MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju saying that no place could develop or make any headway in the absence of proper roads and threw light on the number of major road projects being taken up by the GOI for Arunachal Pradesh considering the low density of roads and strategic location of the state.

Gadkari said that there was absolutely no dearth of funds and urged the chief minister Pema Khandu to provide land and complete the process of environment and forest clearance to enable  the GOI build more roads in the border state. He however, requested the Arunachal CM to improve quality of work and reduce cost of construction by adhering to the latest technical methodologies available. While announcing a slew of mega road projects in the state the union minister assured that the local contractors would be given preference while cautioning that there would be no compromise on the quality of work and that no corruption would be tolerated.

While replying to the public memorandum submitted to him by the Dy CM Chowna Mein, Gadkari assured to construct the East-West Industrial Corridor and the Frontier highway to connect all the border villages of the state and facilitate trade and better communication.

He also assured to shift the highway office from Tezpur in Assam to Itanagar and urged the people to be receptive to all the useful initiatives of the GOI.

While sharing his views in the meeting the charismatic MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju congratulated the people of Arunachal Pradesh on completion of the two major road projects and said that the 14th of January must be inscribed in golden letters in the history of better road connectivity in the state.

Rijiju while highlighting the important development projects he had initiated in the state urged the people to cooperate with the effort put in by the GOI and said that India was fortunate to have a truly visionary Prime Minister in Narendra Modi who was travelling the proverbial extra mile to usher in unprecedented development in the country in all sectors.

In his speech the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu while describing Arunachal as the biggest state in the whole North-East said that due to communication bottleneck the development process of the state was being hampered in no small measure adding that the state had great potentials in terms of natural resources. He however, lamented that the bountiful natural resources could not be fully harnessed thanks to the poor road connectivity.

While speaking glowingly about the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chief minister told the huge cheering audience that the PM was fully alive to the problems and predicaments of the state adding that Narendra Modi was more than keen to develop the North-East.

Khandu categorically told the people that the dark clouds of political instability hovering over the skies of Arunachal Pradesh had been systematically and permanently blown away by the unflinching faith of the people in the BJP and its people-friendly policies and said in one breath that the Lotus would continue to bloom in its magnificent splendour henceforth in the state.

Earlier, in his welcome address the Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said that Arunachal Pradesh was a late starter in all spheres, especially in road connectivity adding that with the completion of a number of road projects many interior villages had been connected. He later submitted a memorandum to Gadkari in which frontier highway, east-west industrial corridor, highways in east and west Arunachal, inland water transport were prominently mentioned.
