Gadkari dedicated New Brahamputra Bridge to the people of Assam

Union minister for shipping, highways and transport, Nitin Gadkari on Sunday dedicated  the newly constructed bridge just  beside to the old Saraighat Bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati. The initial target date for completing the project was April, 2010. But due to delay in completion of the bridge and change of design, the cost was increased by Rs 110 crore.

The new Brahmaputra bridge at Sariaghat constructed at the cost of 475 crore rupees would be beneficial mostly people of Lower Assam. The length of the bridge is nearly 1.5 Km. The bridge will ease the traffic congestion on the old  Saraighat Bridge to a great extent and facilitate free movement between the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra.

Nitin Gadkari, dedicated , New Brahamputra Bridge, Assam, Saraighat BridgeDedicating the new Brahmaputra bridge Nitin Gadkari announced, the Centre will invest 1 lakh crore rupees in road sector in Assam in coming years to improve communication infrastructure in the state. He also said that 15 thousand crore rupees will be spent to construct 1253 kilometers of national highways in Assam.His ministry has set a target to construct 40 kilometers road per day in the next financial year, Gadkari said.

Gadkari also requested the state government to submit a proposal for Brahmaputra Express Highway for construction of road along its river bank with state of the art technology.

 Gadkari also laid stone of the project for development of River Barak as National Waterways. He  said, stress has been given to develop waterways in the country. He said, bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Majuli island will be constructed. The Union minister has also given stress to work on better road engineering to avoid accidents.
