Gadkari assured to Mein expedite the sanction of Itanagar- Banderdewa 4 lane Road Project

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari assured the Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein to expedite the sanction of Itanagar- Banderdewa 4 lane road project that the State Government submitted earlier. Mein met Gadkari at his office chamber to apprise him of various problems and demands in the state.

Mein has requested for early sanction of special repair estimate of Itanagar- Banderdewa road which has been submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport Highways, Government of India. The Union Minister asked senior officer of the Ministry to examine the case for early approval.

The Chief Minister had earlier submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highway and Chemical Fertilizers, Mansukh Mandaviya, during his visit to the state recently, demanding the declaration of four roads as National Highways namely Akajan- Likhabali- Bame road (106 km) in West Siang, Margherita-Changlang (37 km) in Changlang, Daporijo to Dollungmukh via Dumporijo along the left bank of Subansiri river (125 km) and Tezu to Chapakhowa via Sunpura (20 km). In this regard, Gadkari also informed the Deputy Chief Minister that the Union Government is actively considering the proposal for declaring roads as National Highways and the same will be examined and considered.

Mein also apprised Gadkari of the incessant monsoon that plays havoc resulting in huge damage both on the completed stretch and on-going NH projects every year. As such, regular maintenance and protection work is required so that damages due to landslides and other damages can be arrested to ensuring all weather connectivity.

Mein also requested the Union Minister to allocate a maintenance fund of Rs 10 crore for the maintenance and repairs works of National Highway 13, i.e Potin to Ziro road as a special case. The Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Mansukh Mandaviya during his recent visit to the State had announced an allocation of Rs 10 crore for maintenance of Potinto Bopi road (157 km).

Mein also requested for sanction of projects under Central Road Fund (CRF), Economic Importance (EI) and Inter State Connectivity (ISC) to which the Union Minister assured for approval in accordance with the funds earmarked under the respective heads for current financial year.

Mein further urged the Union Minister to entrust the new projects under Special Accelerated Road Development Program in North East (SARDP-NE, Phase-B) to the State PWD as the roads under the Arunachal Package under 1st Phase which is being executed by State PWD would be completed shortly.
