Former Administrator J M Tangu Passes away, CM, DCM, others expresses shock

Noted bureaucrat JM Tangu, IAS (Rtd) breathed his last this morning at about 9.55 am in his private residence at Mirsam. The 75-year-old civil servant survived by his three sons, two daughters, two son-in-law, three daughter-in-law and fifteen grandchildren. His last rite will be performed tomorrow at Mirsam residence.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed shock and grief over the demise of former administrator J M Tangu, IAS (Rtd), who breathed his last this morning. Khandu remembered Late Tangu as one of the most illustrious, qualified and decorated administrators ever produced by Arunachal Pradesh, one of the rare first generation officers of the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sudden demise of former administrator J. M. Tangu, IAS (Retd). In his message, the DCM has said that it is really a sad moment for us that an inspiring and fatherly figure from East Siang District, who displayed enormous equanimity, poise, competence and innovation, while serving the State in various high-ranking capacities is no more with us. He has left behind a void which is difficult to fill.

The news of sad and sudden demise of Matin Tangu who was one of the veteran IAS officer who passed away today this morning gave me a great shock and surprise, said former  chief minister Gegong Apang  . We have lost a great patriot and man of visionary in the state. His good deeds towards the society will remain in our mind forever.

BJP State president, Tapir Gao, Loksabha MP Ninong Ering, Parliamentary Secretaries Disaster Management and Agriculture, Kaling Moyong and Tatung Jamoh respectively, former minister Bosiram Siram, DC Tamiyo Tatak, ZPC Kaling Dai and PMC Chief Councillor Kaling Doruk and others expressed deep shock and their condolences over the sudden demise of the former bureaucrat. In their messages, they said Lt Tangu was a good human being and would be remembered for his immense contributions to the society and the services he rendered in state building process. All prayed Almighty for eternal rest & peace in the heavenly abode giving strength to the bereaved family members to bear the loss, the messages read.

JM Tangu son of Lt. Samat Tangu (father) and Lt. Yakak Taloh Tangu (mother) was born on 1st March in Taki Lalung (old) village, few kilometer away from the historic Pasighat Township. After completion of BA from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong in 1963 he joined SSB (Secret Service Bureau) same year on 12th November.

He was trained by American experts at Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh) and Mahabaleswar (Maharastraya) by British experts on Guerilla Warfare. He also attended ten weeks course on International Social Welfare Services in Australia during 1978. He served as APO-II in Yingkiong (then East Siang) from 1964 to 65 and Instructor for Officer’s Training Course at Mahabaleswar and Panchgani (Maharastraya) from 1966 to 1968.

Lt. Tangu also served as Area Organizer at Roing (Dibang Valley) from 1968 to 1969. Repatriated to APCS during last part 1969 he joined as Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) at Ziro (Lower Subansiri District) and thereafter served at Pasighat as EAC and ADC (Addl. Dy. Commissioner) from 1973 to 1976. He served as Deputy Chief Project Officer (DCPO) from 1977 to 1979 at Itanagar/Naharlagun. He joined as ADC Pasighat in March, 1979 and later become the first Deputy Commissioner of East Siang District in 1981. He also served as DC Bomdila and Lohit upto 1987. Later in 1988 to 2002 served as Secretary Supply and Transport, Commissioner to Chief Minister, Commissioner RWD, Relief & Rehab and settlement, Home, Power, PHE & Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Training and District Administration. After retiring from service on 28th February, 2002 he joined as State Election Commissioner on 16th September, 2002.
