Dorjee Khandu All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament Concludes

Dy CM Chowna Mein said that the state govt would update sports infrastructure and facilities of the state soon while attending the closing ceremony of Dorjee Khandu All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament at Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium as Chief Guest today.

Saying that there is no dearth of talent in individual sports  in the state, he said, state lacks modern infrastructure and facilities in sports. However, he added that efforts are on to update the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy with state of the art facilities and equipments. He also said to provide fund for repair and maintenance of the Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium.

Mein further said that there is natural talents of sports among the North East boys and girls, need of the hour is to give them proper guidance and training. He said that the Sports has become more professional these days and said that by encouraging young boys & girls, sports can be used as an alternative source of income and employment for the unemployed youths.

He also remembered Late Dorjee Khandu in his speech saying that his contribution in development of sports scenario in the state is known to all and shall always be remembered by the state.

He expressed his gratitude to Badminton Association of India for its support in holding the first ever national level tournament of badminton in the state. He also congratulated BAI and ASBA for successful conduct of the tournament.

He also lauded the ability, hard work, discipline and dedication shown by the players through out the tournament and congratulated all the winners as well as the participants.

Chief Referee cum executive member of BAI, H Gyaneshwor Singh shared words of encouragement with the players before the final match.

Bamang Tago, Secretary ASBA cum Organizing Secretary and P Ankamma Choudary, Observer BAI and Kalyan Dutta, Joint Secretary ASBA also spoke on the occasion.

Chief Guest and the host of dignitaries gave away the prizes that included cheques, medals and certificates to the winners of various categories.

Among others, Kumar Waii, Minister of home, RWD and Labour & Employment, Deputy Speaker Alo Libang, Parliamentary Secretaries PD Sona, Jambey Tashi and Nyamar Karbak and Ratu Techi, President ASBA were also present on the occasion.
