‘Discover North East’- A Cultural Yatra held at Mio

The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture,  Government of Arunachal Pradesh and Changlang District Administration has organised a four day outreach chain programme named ‘Discover North East’, A Cultural Yatra which was inaugurated on Wednesday at Miao by Kamlung Mosang, Minister Food and Civil Supplies, WRD, Geology and Mining, Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs as the chief guest. DC Changlang Wayong Khimhun was the guest of honour, and ADC T Rumi welcomed the guests and gathering.

On Thursday the programme was held at New Songking village. The other two days of the programme will be heldpeople at Kharsang on 24 November and conclude at Bordumsa on Saturday next.

 

Speaking during the inaugural programme,  Mosang gave an introduction of the people, culture and geographical conditions of the state in General and Miao in particular. He said that art and culture was a great medium for bonding of people from different places and appreciated NEZCC for selecting Changlang district for this year’s programme which he said will go a long way in the promotion of cultures of different tribes and communities. DC Wayong Khimhun also spoke and welcomed the guests who had come from different states to showcase their culture.

Earlier, Deputy Director Senti Ao gave a brief outline of the programme and the activities of NEZCC. A lot of people thronged the General Ground Miao to witness the cultural performance by troupes representing states like Orissa, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, and Assam.

Stick Dance, Thang-TA and Dhol Dholok Cholom dance from Manipur, Gaddi Nati dance from Himachal Pradesh,  Bordoishikla and Dahal Thungri dance from Assam, Sambhalpuri dance from Orissa, Mamita dance from Tripura and Harvest dance from Meghalaya enthralled the audience.

After the cultural presentation, the visiting cultural troupes were taken to the T.R.Camp for a visit and they witnessed the Tibetan carpet weaving at the craft centre. The Singpho, Tikhak, Longchang and Pangwa were the local troupes who presented their dances. At New Songking Village.

Jowkhong Singpho, ZPC Changlang graced the event as the special guest for the day. While addressing the guests and the people who gathered to witness the programme he said that culture was a way of life and all must strive to preserve and promote it.

On the second day of the programme, Pangwa, Singpho, Longchang and Muklom tribes presented their dance on the host side while the guests showcased theirs as on the previous day.

After the function concluded, the guests were taken for a visit to a Tangsa home where they got to see the customary and traditional exhibits.
