Director General BSF, K K Sharma Visits Meghalaya Frontier

In view of the prevailing Security scenario in the Meghalaya and consequent to his taking over, Mr  K. K. Sharma, IPS, Director General BSF is on extensive visit of AOR of Meghalaya Frontier  BSF. Mr Sharma arrived on 1st May’2016 and visited the border area. He also reviewed the security situation on the border as well as in CI Ops in Meghalaya where BSF is deployed.

Meghalaya Frontier of Border Security Force looks after Border Management of 443 km of International Border with the Bangladesh. In the area of Meghalaya Frontier,09 BSF Battalions are deployed. Mr Sharma also reviewed the status of Border Fencing, Floodlight and border roads.

The DG BSF while addressing the Jawans and Officers exhorted them to maintain utmost vigil on border and ensure security of border and border population. It may be mentioned that in view of increased sensitivity of the border, lot of force-multipliers like Hand-Held Thermal-Imagers, BFSR and Night Vision Device has been installed on border by the BSF to ensure effective night domination. BSF has developed a good synergy with local police and has been carrying out Joint Ops. Besides, in order to seal the border, Joint simultaneous co-ordination patrolling is being carried out along with BGB.

Since the time of taking over, the DG BSF has initiated various programmes in the border areas to develop strong bonding between the BSF and the bordering people. Accordingly, BSF is reaching out to the border population through various interactive programmes as they are the most important stakeholder in the border management.

The DG conveyed his satisfaction over the Ops achievements made by Ftr during the year 2016 in which BSF has apprehended 07 militant/OGWs/linkmen, 51 Indian /Bangladeshi smugglers, 02 Bangladeshi illegal immigrants and seized contraband items worth approx Rs. 1.91 Cr.

The DG held a conference of DIsG and Commandants in the conference hall of the FTR HQ BSF Shillong where Mr  P K Dubey, IG BSF Meghalaya Ftr presented an overview of Border Management in the Meghalaya. The DG was satisfied with the operational performance of the Meghalaya FTR. He emphasised on optimum utilisation of available resources and gadgets / technical equipments to get maximum results. He also desired to conduct Civic Action plan to improve the quality of life and welfare of the border population, upgrade the existing infrastructure and create new avenues for bringing positive changes in the life of the border population. Through the Civic Action Programme to encourage the youths to join the security forces for serving the nation as well as improve their lifestyle and to help everyone who comes forward by imparting training and proper guidance.   The DG also encouraged the force personnel over financial literacy to save and invest their money.  Subsequently, the DG BSF addressed all the officers and briefed them to perform their operational duties with full dedication and sincerity.

On the second day of his visit, Shri K. K. Sharma, IPS, DG BSF accompanied with Shri R. P. Singh, IPS, Addl Director General, Eastern command BSF, Kolkata visited remote BOPs Pyrdwah and Harai and intracted with Border population.
